Penning a monumental art

“Her works are drawn to a scale and not copied. As such, it calls for a good perspective - the angle from which you draw and the proportion between the courtyard and the church steeple, or the proportion between gopuram and the entrance. Additionally feeding in minute details of the figurines on the gopurams is a daunting task. She seems to have a natural flair for exact details. Remarkable really since she does not work with a picture postcard of her subject, but prefers to visit the site and make her own free hand rough sketch.”

“Priya specialises in pen and ink sketches of old temples and monuments. Her technique is to capture the interior and exterior of the structures in unusual angles. What started as a love for art has earned her much appreciation and commercial success and Priya recently held an exhibition at the Adyar Club, where her work, pen and ink sketches of temples, old monuments and Ganesha’s, are on display. She first fills all the spaces with minute symmetrical strokes and then darkens or lightens them, give them the appropriate depth. Her eye for detail is amazing, as no single structure on the temple is left out. Her work is so unique that galleries all over Chennai now exhibit her work. ”
